Ukrainian New Year's Showcase Malanka - January 2011

This year's showcase was held on January 15th of 2011 and it was the third year that we donated to the Ukrainian New Year's celebration, which raises money to support an orphanage and a senior's center in the Ukraine.

This year we donated three Brazilian unset freeform fancy marquise cut lemon citrines with a total carat weight of 44.33 which came with a gift certificate for $1000 towards the design and creation of jewellery. The total value of this donation is $2836.80. The event was a smashing success and everyone that attended had an extremely memorable and fantastic time. Darrell Hubbell and his wife Diane were made honorary Ukrainians and had the Ukrainian names Dmytro and Daryna Hubbellenko bestowed upon them by the Yalenka Dancers.

"Distant Memories"

2010 was the second year that we donated to the Ukrainian New Year's celebration. "Distant Memories" is a piece that was designed to connect all the people of Ukrainian decent living here with their roots in the Ukraine. The gold nuggets represent the wheat grown, and the white gold and diamonds are the sea shore. The larger diamond at the top marks Kiev, the capital of the Ukraine. The evening was great fun, and our MLA's Pat Bell and Shirley Bond auctioned off this pendant for more than it's appraised value, which is $2822.40 with taxes.

"Glory Not Yet Perished"

For the 30th anniversary Malanka Ukrainian New Year's Showcase we built this very special pendant. It was hand formed from white and yellow gold and pave set natural gold nuggets. There are seventeen diamonds set in the twisted white gold frame and there is a stunning checkerboard cut blue topaz, bead set in the bezel in the center of the pendant. This remarkable pendant is suspended on a white gold wheat link chain and has an appraised value of $3421.60 with taxes.
